(Fresno, CA) - The Santa Maria Swim Club began making history on Day 1 of the Central California Junior Olympics, dominating the 800 Freestyle's across all age groups. SMSC has never been better than 4th place at the summer championship meet featuring age group teams from the Central Coast and Central Valley. (Clovis, CA) - The California-Nevada State Championships conitnued Friday evening with SMSC hanging onto 6th in the Boys/Girls Combined and 3rd place in the Women's division. Rachael Wahl swam to a 5:02 in the 400 I.M. to earn 6th place. Lora Lougee finished 24th in the same event. (Clovis, CA) - The Santa Maria Swim Club maintained a spot in the Top 6 at the California-Nevada Championships Thursday evening. Rachael Wahl moved up from 5th to 2nd place in the 200 Butterfly, qualifiying for USA Nationals in 2:16.91. This also broke her own existing team record in the event and left her just .22 off of Olympic Trials. (Clovis, CA) - The 2007 Speedo CA/NV Championships began Wednesday evening with the Men's and Women's 800 Freestyles. Over 110 teams from all over California and Nevada with 900 plus athletes will be competing over the week. Results were not available at press time. However, Josh Prenot set a new SMSC team record in the 13-14 Boys 800 Freestyle with an 8:57. The previous record was 9:08, set by former SMSC swimmer and Presenior Coach, Mark Bennett. (Davis, CA) - Santa Maria Swim Club and Pioneer High School Senior Samantha Lougee will sign a National Letter of Intent to swim at the University of California at Davis beginning in the Fall of 2007. The offer includes a full academic and athletic scholarship.
