(Santa Maria, CA) - The 1st Annual OCS Championship meet was a huge success. 85% best times highlighted the meet for the Novice athletes from SMSC, NCA and Tsunami. The OCS program is a new approach to developing our athletes. With the creation of this "swimming little league," Novice athletes were able to compete in monthly swim meets that lasted less than 2 hours, compete in events appropriate to their ability level and learn how to compete in an environment conducive to teaching. (Santa Maria, CA) - 30 athletes from the Santa Maria Swim Club will represent the team at the Central California Junior Olympics, to be hosted at Cal-State Bakersfield on March 16-18, 2007. This represents the largest contingent of athletes that SMSC has ever been able to send to the 14-under competition. Presenior coach Steve Lougee said, "Its really exciting! The lone event on Thursday night was the 1000 Freestyle. On the girl's side of the action, Maddie Mastrup dropped over 20 seconds to narrowly miss qualifying for the 2007 Junior Nationals.
