(Bakersfield,CA) - SMSC performed well at the Bakersfield Pentathlon and 10-under Thunder competition this past weekend in Bakersfield. In the 10-under competition, SMSC was represented by Colter Knight, who set a team record in the 500 Freestyle. Meanwhile, Sharla Greene managed a Junior Olympic qualification in the 100 Backstroke. In the Sprint Pentathlon, Meghan Zimmer managed to win the event, with victories in the 100Back, 100Free and 200IM. In the Distance Pentathlon, Josh Prenot managed runner-up honors for the Men, while Erica Brannon pulled off runner-up to Rachael Wahl's championships....

(Long Beach, CA) - Natalie Coughlin broke her own American and U.S. Open record in the 200-yard freestyle Sunday night at the 2007 Toyota Southern California Grand Prix of Swimming, turning in a time of 1:41.66. It was the first of two wins for the five-time Olympic medalist Sunday. Coughlin?s performance in the 200y free shattered the previous mark she set in 2002 (1:42.65) by almost a full second. (Long Beach, CA) - The 2007 USA Grand Prix continued in style with Natalie Coughlin narrowly missing the American Record in the 100 yard freestyle. Coughlin turned in a 47.03, missing the 47.00 record. On the men's side, Michael Phelps continued to dominate, winning the 100 Freestyle in 42.20 and the 500 Freestyle in 4:14.60. (Berkeley, CA) - The University of California-Berkeley Invitational got off to a great start for SMSC with most athletes making finals. Events contested included the 200 Free Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200IM, 50 Freestyle and 400 Medley Relay. In the 500 Freestyle, Josh Prenot, Jeremiah Palmerston and Casey Bateman all made finals for the men, while Shawna Weston made her first 500 Free final at a major meet. In the 200 IM, Josh Prenot turned in a potential SMSC Team Record of 2:06 to make the final. The meet continues through Monday.

(Long Beach, CA) - The 2007 USA Swimming Grand Prix began today in Long Beach with the Men's and Women's 1000 Freestyles. 2004 Olympian Kaitlin Sandeno won the event on the women's side, while Ous Melloli of USC won for the men. For the SMSC Men, Jason Dupere and Jamie Furber competed well, swimming to 9:47 and 9:48. (Napa, CA) - The Pacific Swimming Coaches Clinic, hosted by NorCal Swim Shop concluded Sunday evening. The Coaches Clinic, with coaches from all over California, Nevada and beyond is 2 days of talks by some of the best coaches, physical therapists and sports psychologists in the country. SMSC was able to send 8 of their coaches to the 2-day event. Speakers included Randy Reese, former University of Florida Head Coach, Keith Moore from Bakersfield Swim Club and Jozef Nagy, considered the inventor of the current style of breaststroke technique. (Santa Maria) - Silver Group Coach Ryan Drom was honored at the Allan Hancock College EMT Academy graduation for heroism on Friday. Coach Ryan, who also works at Olive Garden, was serving one evening when an infant began choking. Coach Ryan acted quickly, performing the Heimlich maneuver on the infant. Coach Ryan has been coaching the Silver group for 6 months and also and Emergency Medical Technician.

(Federal Way, WA) - The 2006 Husky Invitational came to a close Sunday night at the KING County Aquatic Center in Federal Way. SMSC athletes had their best day of swimming for the meet, with several finalists scoring in the Top 16. Rachael Wahl managed three finals for the meet (400IM/100Fly/200Fly).
