Speedo Texas Championships conclude...

(College Station, TX) - The Speedo Texas Championships came to a close Sunday evening with huge performances by SMSC, leading to a 10th place finish in the 100 team meet. Only 44 of the teams attending even scored points.

The final scores were as follows:

1. CFSC (964.5); 2. Dallas (706.5); 3. City of Plano (415); 4. Texas Gold (264); 5. Blue Tide (245); 6. Fort Worth (232); 7. North Texas (224); 8. FORD Aquatics (223); 9. Loveland Aquatics (219); 10. Santa Maria Swim Club (214).

In the evening's finals, huge swims were delivered by the SMSC crew. In the 100 Back Consolation final, Erica Brannon moved from 16th to 10th with a 57.44. Then in the Championship final, Samantha Lougee swam to 8th (58.16), while Meghan Zimmer managed a 4th place medal with a Spring National qualifying time of 56.84.

Zimmer then swam the 50 Freestyle, good for a 7th place, 24.09 finish. Zimmer set a blazing mark in the morning with a 23.93.

In the Women's 1650 Freestyle, Lora Lougee qualified for the 2007 Junior Nationals, finsihing in 13th with a 17:20.93. One heat later, MAddie Mastrup also qualified for Juniors in 17:22, finsihing 14th.

Jason Dupere and Jamie Furber scored in the 1650 for the men. Dupere finished in 15:53.67 (SMSC Team Record) for 6th, while Furber managed 16:03.15 for 11th.

Rachael Wahl took 4th in the 200 IM in 2:07.19.

And the Women's 400 Medley Relay of Zimmer, Brannon, Wahl and Lougee finished 9th with a National Qualifying Time.

All in all, an exciting week for SMSC. Several team records have fallen, new Junior and US National cuts established.

Lora Lougee and Maddie Mastrup will head for Orlando, Florida for the USA Junior Nationals, March 20-25.

Jamie Furber, Meghan Zimmer, Rachael Wahl, Samantha Lougee and Erica Brannon will head to US Nationals in New York City on March 26-April 1.
