Alumni Jared Zimmer named athlete of the week

Zimmer And Mikolajcik Earn GLIAC Honors Second and third Lewis swimmers to be honored this season

 Nov. 5, 2007 ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis University swimmers sophomore Jared Zimmer and freshman Deirdre Mikolajcik have been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Swimming Athletes of the Week as announced by the conference office. Mikolajcik recorded two NCAA B times with victories in the 200 freestyle (1:55.18) and the 200 backstroke (2:08.35) in a dual meet with Illinois Institute of Technology and Carthage College on Saturday afternoon. Mikolajcik also swam in the 400 medley relay, helping the Flyers to a second place finish with a time of 4:07.81. Zimmer recorded two wins in the meet at Carthage College. He won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.87 and finished first in the 500 freestyle, stopping the clock at 4:43.60. Zimmer also swam on Lewis' 200 yard freestyle medley team, finishing in third with a time of 1:30.53, within a second of second place. Mikolajcik is the first Lewis women's swimmer to earn GLIAC honors this season. Zimmer is the second Lewis men's swimmer to be honored after freshman Kevin Coates earned swimmer of the week after the Flyers' season opening meet at West Virginia. Next week, the Flyers travel to the University of Minnesota for the USA Swimming/Toyota Grand Prix Meet.
