The USA National journal, part IV

(East Meadow, NY) - Had some trouble getting on the internet.

Our SMSC athletes have been doing well. Our typical day at Nationals involves waking around 6:00AM to head for breakfast, getting to the pool by 7:15, warming up. The meet starts at 9:00AM and we swim all morning until the time trial meet starts, usually around 12:30PM. By the time that's over, its often around 2:00PM. That gives us about 2.5 hours for lunch and a quick nap at the hotel before heading back to finals at 4:30PM.....competition starting at 5:30PM. By the time finals is over its about 8:00PM and time for dinner. By 9:00PM, we are back at the hotel and hoping to get enough sleep to do it again.

The kids have done a great job with some very full days. Today was no different. Meghan ZImmer started our morning with a 3 second drop in the 100 Backstroke for a 1:06.93. Jamie Furber dropped a second off his 400 Freestyle in the early heats for a 4:14. Rachael Wahl swam a personal best in the 100 Fly of 1:03.49, good enough for an evening final swim.

In time trials, Erica Brannon swam a 100 Backstroke, tying her best at 1:07.0 while Samantha Lougee swam to a lifetime best 100 Butterfly of 1:06.

In tonight's final, Rachael Wahl dropped a little more time for a 1:03.31. She is now .22 off the Summer National cut and less than a second off her Olympic Trials cut.

The meet concludes on Saturday.
