SMSC jumps into 3rd place on first evening

(Bakersfield, CA) - The Santa Maria Swim Club continued a season of dominating and exciting swims, jumping into 3rd place at the end of the first evening's finals at the 2007 Central California Junior Olympics. Team scores were as follows: (1) Bakersfield Swim Club; (2) Clovis Swim Club; (3) Santa Maria Swim Club; (4) Santa Barbara Swim Club; (5) Canyons Swim Club.

In individual action, Jeremy Grden and Joey Romero finished 6th and 8th in the 11-12 500 Freestyle. Rebekah Corbin and Karen Hendrick finished 4th and 5th in the 13-14 Girls 400 IM, while Josh Prenot finished 2nd for the 13-14 boys.

Karen Hendrick was 8th in the 13-14 100 Backstroke. Sharla Greene finsihed 7th in the girl's 10-under 100 Freestyle while on the boy's side, Colter Knight won the event in a team record 1:03. Jeremy Grden finished 8th in the 11-12 boy's 100 Freestyle. Rebekah Corbin and Jordan Devine went 5th/6th in the 13-14 girl's 100 Freestyle. Zac Toomay finished 3rd for the 13-14 boys.

In the 10-under boys 200IM, Colter Knight finished 5th. Grden and Humberto Moreno finished 6th and 7th in the 11-12 boys 200IM. Karen Hendrick won the 13-14 girl's 1650 Freestyle, while Josh Prenot was the boys champion.

In relay action, the girl's 13-14 800 Free Relay finished 3rd, establishing a new SMSC team record in the process.

The meet continues through Sunday.
